Stumblebum Beer Co. is preparing to close its Metro Detroit brewery and taproom on September 1. Owner Eli Green cited rising costs and broader economic challenges behind the decision.
Stumblebum Beer Co. To Close Its Troy Brewery in September
Stumblebum Beer Co. is a go-to location for the community and perfect for casual gatherings, as it provides both a traditional brewery and a comfortable taproom atmosphere.
On August 7, the owner of the brewery shared the closure announcement on Instagram with a long emotional farewell message. Green said he didn’t want to burden the announcement with a discussion on rising costs.
“While I take great pride in what we were able to build—great beer, great atmosphere, and great connections to our community—the challenges have become insurmountable.”
The brewery located at 1965 W Maple Road, Troy, will shut down on September 1. In the closure announcement, the owner encouraged the team to support business owners and said, “Remember to help your fellow Hobos whenever and wherever you can. You may need their help someday. –Rule #15, Hobo Code of Ethics.”

About the Brewery
Founded by Eli Green, Stumblebum Beer Co. opened in 2024, according to a Detroit Free Press report. The brewery offers a selection of craft beers alongside food and nonalcoholic options.
It has a large main bar and spacious indoor seating, along with an outdoor patio dining area. The brewery offers curated artisan meats and global cheeses with craft beers. For non-drinkers, the brewery also has non-alcoholic options.
Green thanked the community, customers, and staff for their support and mentioned, “The people are just as important to a brewery as the water, malt, hops, and yeast. My heart stays open for you should you ever need it.”
As the brewery enters its final weeks of operations, Eli encourages the community to visit and raise their glass one more time to celebrate Stumblebum Beer Co.
