Jimbo’s, a San Diego natural foods grocer specializing in organic and natural products, plans to open two new stores in San Diego: Scripps Ranch and Mission Valley.

The company lists both locations as coming soon on its website, with each store scheduled to open in 2028. Jimbo’s currently operates four stores in Carmel Valley, 4S Ranch, Carlsbad, and Escondido. Customers can expect the new locations to follow the company’s focus on organic and natural foods, real ingredients, and supporting local farms and businesses.

The Scripps Ranch and Mission Valley stores will expand Jimbo’s current presence in San Diego County. The company’s Carmel Valley location is also home to its headquarters, while its other stores serve communities in 4S Ranch, Carlsbad, and Escondido. Jimbo’s says its Escondido store has been part of the community since 1998.

Jimbo’s was founded by Jim “Jimbo” Someck in 1984, when he opened the company’s first store in North Park. Someck, a native New Yorker, came to San Diego more than 40 years ago and started in the health food business by breaking down cardboard boxes. The company later opened locations in Carmel Valley, Escondido, Carlsbad, 4S Ranch, and downtown Horton Plaza, although the North Park store was later sold and the Horton Plaza location closed.

The company’s current stores focus on organic and natural foods, emphasizing high-quality ingredients and relationships with local organic farmers and natural food vendors. Jimbo’s also highlights its sustainability efforts, including organic produce and bulk departments, ingredient standards, waste reduction, energy efficiency, and support for sustainable food systems.

Jimbo’s says its mission is to source the highest quality organic and natural foods to nourish and inspire communities through real ingredients. The company also operates its “It’s in the Bag” Recycling Program and Kids Club Program and supports schools, environmental groups, charities, and community organizations. The two planned stores will bring Jimbo’s total number of locations to six if both open as scheduled in 2028.
