Since its closing at 41 George St. about six years ago, longstanding Charleston restaurant Jack’s Cafe has been rumored to be returning.

As recent coverage by the Post and Courier notes, Indigo Road Hospitality Group said in 2023 that it wanted to relaunch the concept. (It has since canceled plans to do so.)

Next door to the old Jack’s Cafe, and launched in 2023, is a restaurant called Legend Deli, headed up by Chaz Wendel and Tyler Hunt. According to the Post and Courier coverage, Wendel and Hunt are now at work on a relaunch of Jack’s Cafe under a new name: Jack’s Diner.

“That means,” the coverage says, “patrons can soon expect the type of classic diner fare that’s increasingly hard to find in Charleston.”

Expect to find “all-day breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days week,” with classics like “grits, meatloaf and a club sandwich,” when Jack’s Diner launches in October.

In the meantime, you can keep up with all things Legend Deli by following @legenddeli_chs on Instagram.
