With locations in Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley, and James Island, Locals Sushi & Sports Pub is a unique sports bar concept that brings together sushi with tacos, hibachi, and wings, plus one of the Charleston area’s favorite Happy Hours.
Soon, it will be taking this winning combination to a fourth location, this time in Johns Island, where it will take over the former Blue Smoke Pit space at 1804 Crowne Commons Way.
“We’re looking to open in the first or second week of September,” owner Shawn Sherman told What Now on Thursday—noting, of course, that opening dates for restaurants are always tricky things.
What brings Locals Sushi to the area? What Now asked Sherman.
“We’re super excited to be on the island; our general manager lives there, actually. And one thing that was very appealing about this location is that the restaurant was pretty much ready, and already set up with a sushi bar.”
The Locals Sushi menu opens with Starters like Japanese Mozzarella Sticks and Crab Wontons. Then there are choices from the Grill, including the Goat Cheese Burger and the Carolina Pork Sandwich; Tacos with flavor profiles like Steak Chimichurri and Philly Cheese Steak; and, of course, a whole page of sushi choices. These range from nigiri and sashimi to Signature Rolls like the Temptation (Tempura shrimp & cream cheese. Topped with spicy shredded krab, scallions & Sriracha).
Some of these details may be subject to change as Sherman says the menu is preparing for an update that will coincide with the Johns Island opening. But don’t worry: the spirit of the menu isn’t changing—on the food side or the drinks side.
“We were nominated for Best Happy Hour in Charleston. That’s going to remain the same,” Sherman said. “We’ll also be doing our half-price sushi nights on Tuesdays, starting at 3 p.m.”
