BHC Chicken, a South Korean fried chicken chain, is getting ready to open a new location in San Marcos at 133 N Twin Oaks Valley Road, Suite 100.
The company recently submitted documents to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality for the new restaurant, which will replace Subway in Civic Center Plaza. An exact opening date has not yet been announced. The location is likely the latest project from franchise owner John Baik, who operates the BHC Chicken franchise in San Diego County. Customers can expect Korean fried chicken, including the brand’s signature Bburinkle, Sweet & Spicy, Gold-King, Red-King, and Classic varieties.
BHC Chicken previously announced plans for additional San Diego County locations through Baik, including restaurants in Rancho Bernardo and Carlsbad. What Now San Diego reported in August 2024 that the Rancho Bernardo location would replace a former Subway at 11983 Bernardo Plaza Drive, while a Carlsbad location was also in the works. Both locations are now listed on BHC Chicken’s website, along with the existing Sorrento Valley restaurant.
The San Marcos location would expand BHC Chicken’s presence farther north in the county. The company opened its first San Diego location in Sorrento Valley in early 2024, following its entry into the United States with locations in Los Angeles. Baik’s continued expansion would give the brand several locations across San Diego County, including San Marcos, Rancho Bernardo, Carlsbad, and Sorrento Valley.
BHC Chicken’s menu centers on Korean fried chicken, with options ranging from the original Classic chicken to varieties coated in sauces, seasonings, and other toppings. The Bburinkle features crispy fried chicken topped with Korean cheese seasoning, while Gold-King combines soy sauce, honey, and garlic. The menu also includes K-Food, side dishes, and Western-style offerings.
