Don Churros Gomez is slated to open a new location at Katella Commons, the upcoming 50,000-square-foot market hall at OCVIBE in Anaheim. The concept, led by brothers Jaime and Ricky Nuñez Gomez, was announced this week as one of five new culinary additions to the development. Katella Commons is scheduled to open in early 2027.
The business traces its origins to Yahualica, Jalisco, Mexico, where the brothers’ grandfather, known as Don Churros, created the family’s original recipe in 1969. Today, the third-generation family business operates a storefront in Downtown Santa Ana at 215 W. Fourth Street and a food truck in Anaheim.
According to the company’s website, its churros are made from scratch using a proprietary recipe passed down for more than five decades. At Katella Commons, Don Churros Gomez will serve its traditional thin-style churros alongside other Mexican desserts.
The company’s existing menu includes its signature El DonChurro, filled with cajeta and finished with cinnamon sugar, as well as traditional churros served with ice cream. The company prepares its dough over a three-day process.
Katella Commons will feature 21 chef-driven kitchens and six bar and lounge concepts within OCVIBE, the 100-acre mixed-use development surrounding Honda Center. The project’s first phase is scheduled to open in early 2027.
OCVIBE is a major mixed-use development taking shape on 100 acres in Anaheim, California, with a $5 billion investment. The project aims to create a walkable, year-round destination around Honda Center, with a mix of dining, entertainment, residential, office, and public spaces.
