The Alpharetta City Council has approved plans for the rezoning of North Point Mall. The redevelopment would transform the site into a sports and entertainment district. The project is expected to expand the local tax base and create thousands of permanent jobs.
Alpharetta Greenlights North Point Mall Redevelopment
The plan to rezone the North Point Mall site has been approved by the Alpharetta City Council. The project is being led by real estate firm Jamestown on behalf of site owner New York Life. The plan is to turn the site into a year-round destination for sports, entertainment, dining, shopping, and community activities.
Jamestown Chief Investment Officer Tim Perry said the approval is an important step toward creating a regional destination. The project is expected to bring investment, jobs, and other benefits to the community.
North Point Mall opened more than 30 years ago as one of the country’s largest malls. However, the traditional mall is less suited for the area’s current needs due to changing shopping habits. The new plan aims to build on the site’s history as a regional destination while creating a more diverse mixed-use district.
The project is expected to generate more than $2 billion in direct construction spending and create over 13,000 construction jobs. It is also expected to add more than 6,000 permanent jobs and expand the local tax base.
The plan follows an extensive review process. It involved community meetings, traffic and parking studies, public hearings, and reviews by city staff, the Planning Commission, and the City Council. The development team also worked with community members and consultants to address concerns about transportation, parking, public spaces, design, and construction phases.
Jamestown, Machete Group, and New York can now move forward with the planning, designing, and development of the project. HKS Architects will handle master planning and architectural design. Kimley-Horn will provide civil engineering, traffic, and transportation services.

Hotels, Restaurants, and Retail Planned for the Site
The proposal includes a 20,000-seat NHL-ready arena and a 4,000-seat music hall and performing arts center. It features a 2,000-seat community hockey rink and a 1,100-seat movie theater. The redevelopment will be built in phases if the NHL awards a franchise to the North Point site.
Plans include a 35,000-square-foot hotel conference center and up to 650 hotel rooms across two hotels. It will also have about 565,000 square feet of retail and dining space. The mixed-use district will also feature 1,385 multifamily rental units and more than 20 acres of public parks, plazas, and multi-use trails.
The rezoning approval marks a major step toward transforming North Point into a new mixed-use destination.
