Legacy at Herndon’s grand opening will be celebrated this week. The rental community will add new homes to Atlanta’s Westside. The grand opening will be attended by several dignitaries from Pennrose, Atlanta Housing, and other organizations.
Legacy at Herndon Square to Celebrate Grand Opening
Pennrose, Atlanta Housing, the City of Atlanta, Hunt Companies, and Oakwood Development Group will celebrate the grand opening of Legacy at Herndon Square. The new community is located at 527 Herndon Square Avenue in Atlanta. The event will be held on August 27 at 1 p.m.
The grand opening will feature speakers and representatives, including Reverend Terry L. Hightower, Antioch Urban Ministries; Will Eckstein, Regional Vice President, Pennrose LLC; Terri M. Lee, President & CEO, Atlanta Housing; and Mayor Andre Dickens, City of Atlanta. Representatives of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Truist, and Invest Atlanta will also attend the event.
According to Urbanize Atlanta, the project is part of a broader 12-acre master plan that also includes a senior building and more. It has been taking shape for several years on the former Herndon Homes site.
Project Details
The Legacy at Herndon Square is a new community with 201 rental apartments. It offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for families across different income levels.
About 85% of the units are designated as affordable and workforce housing. The units are available to households earning between 30% and 80% of the Area Median Income. The remaining apartments will be offered at market rates.
The community also includes green space, an interior courtyard, and enclosed parking. There is also a wellness clinic, fitness center, computer and learning center, covered picnic area, and 10,000 square feet of commercial space. It was built to meet EarthCraft Multifamily and ENERGY STAR Certification standards.
Legacy at Herndon Square is the second phase of the five-phase redevelopment of the former Herndon Homes. Once complete, the project will include at least 379 multifamily units, a 97-unit senior building, 32 townhomes, and commercial space.
The grand opening of Legacy at Herndon Square marks another step in the redevelopment of the former Herndon Homes community.
