Newberry is getting another sushi option as Tamaya Sushi expands into the community with a new location on West Newberry Road.
The restaurant is coming to 14209 W. Newberry Road, Suite A, with an opening planned between October and November. Tamaya’s website currently lists the new location as ‘coming soon’.
Tamaya Sushi’s main draw is its made-to-order, all-you-can-eat sushi experience. Unlike a traditional buffet, the restaurant prepares each roll after it is ordered, allowing diners to choose from a wide selection of sushi and other Japanese dishes.
The menu includes classic rolls, specialty rolls, nigiri and sashimi, along with appetizers, soups, salads and other Japanese favorites. But the Newberry opening is also giving owner Wen Zhou Qiu an opportunity to introduce something new.
“We are currently testing a brand new way for all you can eat sushi,” Qiu said. “We’ve already begun some testing at our first location right now, but, yes, we’re looking to improve the all you can eat sushi experience.”
That testing is already underway at Tamaya’s Gainesville restaurant as the team works on the new format before bringing it to Newberry.
Tamaya’s Gainesville location, its first, opened on Archer Road in 2025. The restaurant describes its approach as an unlimited sushi experience where rolls are freshly prepared to order rather than sitting in a buffet line.
