Cocina Madrigal is preparing to reopen its South Phoenix restaurant at 1530 E. Wood St. in October 2026, according to Phoenix New Times. The restaurant has remained closed since a fire in the original building in March 2024. Permitting and construction delays extended the rebuilding process.

Chef Leo Madrigal and his sons, Brian and Edson, plan to keep the restaurant’s existing layout. Renovations will bring new paint, tile, and artwork, along with improvements to bathroom accessibility. Outside, plans include repaving the parking lot and adding a few spaces.

The menu will also have some additions, including a shrimp tostada and chicken relleno.

During the closure, the Madrigals have continued serving customers from a food truck at 1523 E. Wood St., a short walk from the restaurant. What Now Phoenix reported on the truck’s launch in April 2025.

The temporary operation serves many of the restaurant’s familiar dishes, including tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and salads. Its menu also lists guacamole prepared to order and aguas frescas in watermelon, hibiscus, and pineapple flavors.
