Multiple Violations Were Found at This Memphis Restaurant During a Recent Inspection

2 star Jr. was flagged for a lack of hot water at the handwashing sink and improper food storage.

The Tennessee Department of Health conducted a routine health inspection at 2 star Jr on August 31, 2026. The restaurant was cited for multiple health and safety violations, including improper food storage and cooling, food debris buildup on equipment, and a lack of hot water at a handwashing sink.

The restaurant received a score of 64 following the inspection.

2 Star Jr. is a fast-casual restaurant serving burgers, wings, Philly subs, and other dishes. According to the inspection report, inspectors noted the following violations:

  • The report cited several priority violations, including improper cooling and storage of raw animal products, unclean food-contact surfaces, improper storage of chemicals, and a lack of hot water.
  • Raw steak and overcooked chicken were stored next to each other in the prep cooler. The raw steak and raw chicken were stored above cooked shrimp in the prep cooler. Bulk lettuce was stored on top of raw eggs in the Pepsi cooler.
  • The staff was instructed to follow proper storage procedures for raw animal products to prevent cross-contamination. According to the report, the restaurant was advised to separate cooked foods and produce from raw animal products during storage.
  • Black buildup was noted inside the ice machine dispenser and required routine cleaning and sanitizing.
  • The can opener had food debris and rust buildup. The can opener blade must be discarded and replaced, as it cannot be sanitized properly.
  • A cutting board on the prep table had deep grooves and stains and was required to be replaced or discarded.
  • Hard-boiled eggs prepared at 9:30 a.m. had an internal temperature of 75°F. The staff was instructed to utilize the proper cooling procedure of cooling the food items to 70°F in two hours or less and then bringing them down to 41°F within 4 hours. The eggs were discarded during the inspection.
  • A bottle of cleaner was stored on the shelf next to the hard-boiled eggs. The report called for chemicals to be stored away from food-preparation areas.
  • A missing thermometer was noted in all coolers and freezers. The staff was instructed to provide internal thermometers for all coolers and freezers to ensure proper temperature.
  • Unlabeled sauce bottles were found during the inspection. The report called for food, sauces, and containers to be properly labeled.
  • Boxes of hot sauce were stored on the ground. To prevent contamination, the staff was advised to store all food items at least 6 inches off the ground.
  • During the inspection, an uncovered box of chicken wings was found. The staff was instructed to cover all food items to prevent contamination.
  • The report noted that to-go trays were not properly inverted, and staff was instructed to correct the issue.
  • The deep freezer had excessive frost buildup and required defrosting. The report also identified a broken prep table that needed repair or replacement.

  • The report identified a damaged deep-freezer lid that needed repair. The restaurant must repair the deep freezer lid.
  • Heavy grease buildup on the fryer baskets was noted during the inspection. The staff was advised to routinely clean the fryer baskets.
  • The restaurant had no chlorine test strips. The staff was instructed to provide test strips to test the sanitizer solution concentrations.
  • Grease buildup was found on the exterior of all kitchen equipment. The staff was instructed to routinely clean the exterior of all equipment.
  • The report noted that raw chicken juice was pooling at the bottom of the frozen treats cooler and requires routine cleaning.
  • The handwashing sink, or 3-compartment sink, had no hot water. The PIC informed the health inspectors that hot water has not been available for multiple days.
  • The report stated that the restaurant must remain closed until the hot water supply is repaired or restored. A follow-up inspection will be conducted to verify compliance.
  • A broken dumpster lid and excessive trash were observed at the back of the building. Staff was instructed to repair the dumpster lid and dispose of the excess trash.
  • The report also identified stained walls that needed to be cleaned.
  • The report noted gaps along the bottom of the back door that needed to be repaired to prevent pest entry.
  • The report also identified an excessive amount of items stored throughout the restaurant. The restaurant was advised to remove items that were not in use.
  • Grease buildup was noted on the vent hood vents and missing vents. The staff was advised to regularly clean the vents and replace the missing ones.

Due to the restaurant’s unclean and unsanitary conditions, it received a low score of 64. The restaurant is required to correct all the major violations and repair the hot water supply before requesting a reinspection.
