A Gilbert family who has spent years biking to Agritopia for dinner and drinks will soon become part of the neighborhood’s restaurant community.
Tacos Tijuana plans to open its newest Valley location at Barnone at Agritopia this October. Wendy Torres, who has lived in Gilbert with her family for 11 years, now runs the street-taco concept her father, Adolfo Torres, launched from a food truck in 2016.
The original truck, parked near 67th Avenue and Thunderbird, sold out on its first day. The family later opened restaurants in Glendale and Mesa, where Tacos Tijuana has operated for eight years. Now Wendy and her husband, Holmes, are bringing the family business closer to home.
The Barnone menu will remain intentionally focused, with carne asada, al pastor carved fresh from the trompo, corn tortillas pressed to order and the family’s signature red salsa, still called “Salsa Adolfa” after its creator.
The exact opening date remains in development, but the family expects to celebrate opening day with live mariachi music and additional promotions.
This location carries a particularly personal connection. The Torres family considered opening at Epicenter several years ago, but the timing did not work. They continued visiting Agritopia as customers, often biking over with their children, stopping at Garage East and eating at Joe’s Farm Grill. Barnone ultimately became the opportunity they had been waiting for.
