A Houston bakery and ice cream shop known for its allergen-free desserts has announced its closure. Awesome Bites Co. will shutter its physical store after seven years of service.

Awesome Bites Shutters Sawyer Yards Location

Founded by Jennifer Thai, Awesome Bites focuses on wholesome, sweet treats that are both healthy and allergy-free. Jennifer’s daughter inspired her to start the bakery, which makes its treats from scratch without the top nine major food allergens.

It offers super muffins, allergy-friendly N’Ice creams, and other delicious desserts. The brand has built a strong reputation and following with its inclusive menu and flavors. The storefront at 2313 Edwards St., Suite 185, in Sawyer Yards will close permanently.

Jennifer announced the closure on the company’s website and social media accounts. On the website, she wrote, “Sadly, our storefront’s final day is September 27.”

In the Facebook post, Thai wrote, “It’s not what my heart wants to do, but after a lot of trying, pivoting, hoping, and holding on, I’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to close the Awesome Bites storefront.”

Thai described the past seven years of operating Awesome Bites in Houston as an honor. In the announcement post, she also thanked the customers and community members for their support.

Community Reaction on Social Media

Following the closure announcement, several customers of the bakery shop expressed their disappointment on social media.

One of the customers commented, “This makes me so sad. I have loved getting cupcakes and cake from you. I’ll miss the Cookie Monster the most!”

Another customer responded, “I’m not sure how we are going to break this news to our kids. This is the only place my daughter can go and order something. My husband and I have both cried today knowing how much it’s going to break her heart!”

While the physical store wraps up its operation, the owner invites the community to visit and order their favorite treat. Thai said she hopes to continue Awesome Bites in a different form.

The closure will end Awesome Bites’ seven-year run at its Sawyer Yards storefront.
