Sushiya on Sunset will close its West Hollywood location this month. The closure comes after nearly three decades in West Hollywood. Following the news of its closure, longtime customers expressed their disappointment on social media.
Sushiya on Sunset to Close This Month
Sushiya on Sunset is a long-running Japanese restaurant located at 8650 W. Sunset Blvd. and has been serving the area for twenty-eight years. The restaurant announced that it will close on September 29.
Sushiya shared the news on social media, where it thanked the community for its years of support. In the post, Sushiya reflected on its 28 years on Sunset Boulevard and its history in the Sunset Plaza area.
“Over the years, a number of movies and television shows were filmed along the stretch of Sunset Plaza outside and in Sushiya, giving the restaurant its own small place in Hollywood history.”
The post encouraged customers to dine at Sushiya before it closes.

Sushiya’s closure comes as several other West Hollywood restaurants have recently closed. Other recent closures include Employees Only, Electric Owl, and The Belmont.
Local Diners React to Sushiya’s Closure
Sushiya opened on the Sunset Strip in 1998, offering a menu focused on sushi and Japanese-influenced dishes. It also offers options for diners who don’t eat sushi, including steaks and other meat dishes.
The restaurant positions itself as a more fun, casual, and accessible sushi spot rather than a traditional high-end omakase destination.
