A community favorite farm-to-table restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri, announced its closure. Blue Bird Bistro will permanently close its doors in fall 2026. After 25 years of service, the lease for the restaurant location has ended.
Blue Bird Bistro Announces Closure
Located in the Westside neighborhood at 1700 Summit Street in Kansas City, Blue Bird Bistro serves Mid-American artisan cuisine. The eatery built its reputation with its strong commitment to the community and by sourcing its ingredients from local farmers.
The menu features organic ingredients and dishes made with locally sourced products. Menu items include Blue Bird salad, French toast, bison burgers, and cakes.
Through a social media announcement, the restaurant team shared that after 25 years, Blue Bird Bistro is closing. The restaurant has not announced a specific closure date.
In the announcement, the team wrote, “Over the coming weeks, we’d love to see you a lot for meals, drinks, and that one last visit as we wind down service this fall.”
In the post, the team explained, “We recently learned that we have lost our lease, and while it’s a big change to process, it’s also an opportunity to close a meaningful chapter.”

Blue Bird Bistro Thanks the Community
With the heartbreaking news of the closure, the Blue Bird team also shared an emotional farewell message for the community. They thanked the Kansas City community and wrote, “From our guests and staff to the farmers, makers, and local businesses we’ve had the privilege of working alongside, you’ve helped make Blue Bird Bistro what it is.”
The team also said that they are incredibly grateful for the support and love they received from the Kansas City community.
Following the closure announcement, several customers and community members expressed their disappointment on social media.
One customer wrote, “We are heartbroken to hear this; you will be missed, but Kansas City will always remember your love for community and the meals we shared.”
“This is so bittersweet. I’ve enjoyed the company and food you bring to your open tables. What you have created is so special,” said another regular customer.
As Blue Bird Bistro enters its final chapter, the team encourages the community to visit and enjoy one more meal.
