Original Tommy’s World Famous Hamburgers, the Southern California burger chain known for its chili cheeseburgers and chili cheese fries, is getting ready to open a new location in Woodland Hills at 20032 Ventura Blvd.
The new location will open in the former home of Nix Automotive Service, according to WhatsNewSFV. An exact opening date has not been announced. Customers can expect burgers, chili cheese fries, chili dogs, tamales, and breakfast items, including a breakfast sandwich and breakfast burrito.
Original Tommy’s was founded in 1946 by Tom Koulax, the son of Greek immigrants, who opened the first stand at Beverly and Rampart Boulevards in Los Angeles. According to the company’s website, the original stand gradually developed a following among Los Angeles burger customers before the business expanded in the 1960s. By the 1970s, Tommy’s had begun opening additional restaurant locations.
Today, the company operates 32 locations across Southern California and Las Vegas, including restaurants in Canoga Park, Burbank, North Hills, Van Nuys, Simi Valley, Ventura, and other communities. The Woodland Hills location will add another San Fernando Valley restaurant to the company’s existing footprint. Tommy’s says its future growth will focus on selected locations in California, Nevada, and Arizona while maintaining its standards for quality, value, and service.
The menu centers on a limited selection of burgers, hot dogs, tamales, fries, and breakfast items. Popular offerings include the Chili Cheeseburger, Double Chili Cheeseburger, Triple Chili Cheeseburger, Caliente Chili Burger, Chili Cheese Dog, Chili Tamale, and Chili Cheese Fries. Breakfast options include a sausage-and-egg sandwich and a breakfast burrito.
The company describes its restaurants as self-service, with customers ordering and paying at the service counter before receiving their food. Many locations also offer drive-through service, and some operate around the clock. With a new restaurant planned for Ventura Boulevard, Original Tommy’s will bring its longstanding menu and fast-service concept to another Woodland Hills location.
