Trulieve, one of the largest and most financially dominant multi-state cannabis operators (MSOs) in the United States, is coming to Houston. According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit, the new Trulieve dispensary is expected to open in the Cypress-Fairbanks area within the greater Northwest Houston region at 12145 FM 1960.
The commercial/retail land and building sit near the Steeplechase and Windermere Lakes neighborhoods in northwest Houston and are a standalone commercial property rather than a large named shopping center, previously home to a branch of Amerant Bank.
The permit for the new Trulieve shop set to come to Northwest Houston further details that construction started back in late June and was slated to wrap up at the end of August. But Trulieve Chief Corporate Affairs and Strategy Officer, Christine Hersey, shared that the new dispensary will likely not open for another couple of months.
“We are working toward final licensure in Texas. No operations or retail can open before we have the license,” Hersey said in a text conversation with What Now Houston.
If all goes well with permitting, final licensing, and the estimated 250,000 construction project, the hope is that Trulieve will be able to debut before the end of this year.
“Build-out of existing 3,294 sq. ft. space for mercantile use. Demo, new walls, ceilings, finishes, and MEP associated with these improvements,” the permit for the new dispensary reads.
Bobby Joyce, Trulieve’s National Director of Construction, was also listed on the permit. What Now reached out, but we did not hear back by the time of this publication.
Trulieve was founded in 2015 in Tallahassee, Florida, by a team including CEO Kim Rivers and local horticulturists to provide legal medical cannabis. In 2016, the company completed initial sales as Florida’s first licensed medical marijuana operator. By 2018, the business was listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE), and in 2021, it acquired Harvest Health & Recreation in a $2.1 billion deal, creating one of the largest multi-state cannabis operators in the U.S.
This year, Trulieve made history as the first plant-touching U.S. cannabis company to trade on a major U.S. stock exchange following federal medical cannabis rescheduling. There are now 240 Trulieve retail dispensaries across the United States.

Trulieve is anticipated to debut in the Cypress-Fairbanks area within the greater Northwest Houston region at 12145 FM 1960 later this year or early next year.
