An upscale restaurant in Coral Gables, Sra. Martinez is preparing to close its doors permanently. The restaurant, founded by an award-winning chef, will serve its final dinner on September 26, 2026.
Sra. Martinez to Shut Its Doors in Coral Gables
Sra. Martinez was founded by Miami-born award-winning chef Michelle Bernstein and her husband and business partner, David Martinez. The restaurant originally opened in Miami’s Design District in 2008 before reopening at 2325 Galiano Street in Coral Gables in December 2024.
The menu created by chef Bernstein focuses on a blend of Spanish flavors and South Florida-style cooking. The menu is also heavily influenced by French, Mediterranean, and old-world culinary traditions.
The rebranded Spanish restaurant, Sra. Martinez in Coral Gables, announced its closure with a social media post. The owners wrote that after careful consideration, they have decided to close the restaurant permanently. They stated, “Our last night of service will be Saturday, September 26th.”
The owners thanked the Coral Gables community, customers, and the restaurant team for their support.
In the post, the owners also shared that while the restaurant is closing, it does not mean a forever goodbye to the Gables community. “We’re keeping the space and already working on what comes next,” assured the team.

Chef Michelle Bernstein’s Career
Chef Bernstein received the James Beard Foundation Award in the ‘Best Chef: South’ category in 2008, according to the Michelle Bernstein Catering website.
Apart from Sra. Martinez, the couple also operates several other notable restaurants and cafes, like Café La Trova and La Cañita. She also hosts two popular TV shows: Check, Please! South Florida on PBS and SoFlo Taste on Channel 10.
Chef Bernstein is also part of an upcoming bar and restaurant, Zebra Club by Naren Young, David Martinez and Dan Binkiewicz.
Sra. Martinez built a strong following in the community with its seasonal cooking, locally sourced ingredients, and warm hospitality. The restaurant offers an elegant and sophisticated dining experience, a vibrant cocktail menu and bar scene, and live music performances. It is well-known for its celebratory vibe and authenticity.
As Sra. Martinez wraps up its operations, the owners encouraged the community to visit and enjoy one more meal with them.
