Culver’s could be adding another Jacksonville location, with plans pointing to a new restaurant in the Bowden area near Interstate 95.
The Wisconsin-based chain has been identified for a 1.27-acre property at 5110 University Blvd. W., between I-95 and Philips Highway. The site is being explored for a Culver’s restaurant, according to information reported by the Jacksonville Daily Record.
The property is currently home to an existing building and a smaller prefabricated warehouse. It was previously occupied by Ponderosa Steakhouse and has since been marketed for lease or sale.
A JEA service-availability request lists Culver’s as the potential restaurant for the site, with Jacksonville engineering firm Kimley-Horn and Associates listed as the applicant. However, the utility review is part of the development process and does not mean the project has been approved. The franchisee also has not yet been identified for this particular location.
If the project moves forward, the location would add another Culver’s to a Jacksonville market where the chain has continued to expand. Culver’s currently operates multiple restaurants across Northeast Florida, including locations in Duval, St. Johns, Clay and Nassau counties.
Culver’s is known for its ButterBurgers, made-to-order burgers served on lightly buttered, toasted buns. The menu also includes chicken sandwiches and tenders, seafood, salads, sides and its signature fresh frozen custard.
The frozen custard lineup includes Concrete Mixers, shakes, malts, sundaes and a rotating Flavor of the Day. Wisconsin cheese curds, crinkle-cut fries and other sides round out the menu.
Culver’s has been growing its Jacksonville-area footprint since the first Northeast Florida location opened in Middleburg in 2019. The chain’s existing Jacksonville restaurants include locations such as its Collins Road restaurant, which offers dine-in service along with drive-thru and curbside ordering.
For now, the 5110 University Blvd. W. location remains a proposed project, with additional approvals and development steps still ahead.
