KaleMart24 is preparing for a rapid expansion across Quebec and Ontario, with the Montreal-based convenience store chain planning to grow to at least 22 locations by the first quarter of 2027, according to Retail Insider.
Founded by Oussama Saoudi, KaleMart24 currently has nine locations operating, with 17 additional locations secured, according to information shared by Saoudi. Eight of those secured locations are under construction and are expected to open by the end of the fall, while five additional franchisees are still searching for locations.
The company is primarily targeting dense urban areas with high pedestrian traffic, although it is also exploring gas stations and strip malls. Typical locations range from approximately 1,000 to 1,500 square feet, with some stores reaching up to 2,000 square feet.
KaleMart24 is also preparing to expand into Toronto, with its first location planned for 601 Yonge St. Saoudi said the store is scheduled to open Saturday.
The company launched its first location at Montreal’s Berri-UQAM Metro station in March 2024. Since then, KaleMart24 has positioned itself as an alternative to the traditional convenience store model by combining familiar convenience-store categories with a selection of ready-to-eat and better-for-you products.
The stores offer items such as ready-to-eat meals, smoothies, acai bowls, snacks and packaged products, alongside more traditional convenience-store offerings.
According to Saoudi, the concept was created after he noticed differences between convenience stores in North America and those in Europe and Asia, where stores can serve as destinations for breakfast, lunch, snacks and other prepared foods.
“We’re changing the convenience store landscape,” Saoudi said.
The company’s locations are designed to make use of smaller retail spaces that may not be suitable for supermarkets. Saoudi said KaleMart24 typically looks for spaces between 1,000 and 1,500 square feet, although the company has tested locations as small as 300 square feet.
The chain is also seeking franchisees and real estate opportunities beyond Quebec and Ontario. Saoudi said the company is looking for franchise partners in markets including Calgary and British Columbia as it considers further expansion across Canada.
KaleMart24’s national expansion is being led by Think Retail, with founder Tony Flanz overseeing site selection and deal execution across Quebec and Ontario.writ
Saoudi said the company ultimately aims to surpass 100 locations by the end of 2027, as KaleMart24 continues expanding its convenience-store model into additional Canadian markets.
