Target Corporation announced it officially lowered prices on nearly 2,000 of its every day items. The retail giant said that making home, apparel, and accessory items more cost-friendly for its customers is part of a broader corporate effort implemented by the company over the past year.

Value Ahead of the Holidays

As holiday shopping gets underway, Target announced the reductions are intended to make everyday essentials more affordable for families.

“Guests are looking for great products at an incredible value, and that’s an important part of what we aim to deliver every day,” Cara Sylvester, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, Target, said in a press release. “By continuing to lower prices across our assortment, we’re making it even easier for busy families to create moments of joy this fall with the style, design and exceptional value they can only find at Target.”

According to a recent Bank of America analysis, spending at general merchandise and big-box retailers is outperforming more traditional retailers as consumers continue to seek value. Bank of America further added, consumers are increasingly seeking lower-cost alternatives while continuing to spend. And stores like Target are responding with price cuts to meet their needs.

According to Target executives, the strategy is designed to relieve some of the financial stresses that back-to-school and the upcoming holidays can have on consumers’ wallets by ensuring offerings are not only economical, but of high quality and in style.

Target Items With Lower Prices

The most sought after and necessary items, such as clothing and footwear, have been marked down considerably. Some prices are now 20% or more below last year’s levels. Price reductions span several departments, including apparel, footwear, children’s items, and bedding.

  • Women’s Clothing: Long-sleeve tees have been reduced to $12
  • Women’s Footwear: Average costs are lowered from $40 down to $35 (majority of new arrivals are priced below last year’s styles).
  • Children’s Boots: Lowered approximately 15% from last year.
  • Bedding for the Home: Comforters and other bedding essentials have been reduced by approximately 15%.

Target Circle Deal Days, scheduled from Oct. 6 through Oct. 7., is another way shoppers can take advantage of savings. Membership in Target Circle is free by signing up at Target.com, as well as in its mobile app, or by asking a Target Team member at checkout.

Target operates more than 2,000 stores across the U.S. and also sells products online.
