A late-night comfort food concept that started in a Montreal apartment 17 years ago is bringing its halal menu to Ottawa’s Bank Street. According to the brand’s website, Chef On Call plans to open at 228 Bank St. in Ottawa. The opening is targeted for November 2026, according to the brand’s Instagram page.
Founded in 2009 by Gabriel Malbogat and Robert Kauffman, two university students cooking out of their Montreal apartment, Chef On Call was built on a straightforward premise: elevated comfort food, made to order and delivered until 4 a.m. Every item on the menu is cooked when ordered.
Seventeen years later, the brand operates in Montreal, Waterloo, and London, Ontario, with Ottawa as its next location.
The menu centers on halal options, including hand-breaded chicken tenders, handcrafted burgers, poutine, curly fries, 1 lb. halal wings, and hand-spun shakes, with dipping sauces made in-house.
The late-night positioning is a deliberate part of the brand’s identity.
In Montreal and Waterloo, the kitchen runs until 4 a.m., while in London, it stays open until 3 a.m. Ottawa’s hours have not yet been confirmed, but the brand has made clear that it is designed for the moment when other kitchens have closed.
