Remington Restaurant in the Houston Grand Hotel, formerly the St.Regis Houston, has a new owner, and he’s launching a multimillion-dollar renovation project. According to a recently filed Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit, the Remington Restaurant is set to undergo a $2.5 million renovation at the Uptown/Galleria district hotel located at 1919 Briar Oaks Lane.

At the helm of it all is well-known local businessman Leslie Doggett, who recently acquired the property. What Now Houston reached out to Doggett, who was also listed on the permit, to find out more about the renovations. Unfortunately, we did not hear back by the time of this publication.

“Renovation of the existing restaurant and addition of Private Dining Room,” the permit for the 4,993 square-foot dining destination reads.

The permit further details that construction is planned to start in mid-November of this year and is slated to wrap up a little after the beginning of February 2027. If all goes well with permitting and the estimated $2.5 million construction project, the renewed Remington Restaurant should be completed and reopened by next Spring.

What Now also reached out to HEI Hotels & Resorts General Manager, Steven Terrebonne, who was also listed on the permit. But we did not hear back by the time of this publication.

“The Houston Grand Hotel – River Oaks features a sophisticated restaurant and bar offering a variety of cuisine and signature cocktails in an elegant setting,” The Remington Restaurant page on the Marriott website reads.

“The venue provides a refined atmosphere suitable for both casual dining and special occasions.”

The hotel first opened as The Remington Hotel in 1982. The restaurant’s current moniker, The Remington Restaurant, directly honors those 1982 roots and the original identity of the building. Over the years, the hotel shifted ownership and operated as Houston’s first Ritz-Carlton and later as The St. Regis before its recent transformation into the Houston Grand Hotel – River Oaks.

The restaurant originally opened as the signature fine-dining venue inside The St. Regis Houston, gaining acclaim for its upscale red-velvet elegance, romantic atmosphere, and Zagat recognition as a top hotel restaurant in America. Over the decades, it became known for serving sophisticated Modern American fare infused with Texan and Southwestern influences, under notable culinary figures like chef John Signorelli.

No word just yet on what exactly will be on the menu after the renovations. But we’re sure more will be revealed as we inch closer to the reopening. So keep your eyes peeled and your ears perked for the latest.

Remington Restaurant is anticipated to reopen after its hefty renovations in the Houston Grand Hotel, located at 1919 Briar Oaks Lane, by Spring 2027.
