A 20-Seat Sushi Counter with Torched A5 Wagyu Is Opening in Midtown

Sakasama is opening its doors in Midtown Manhattan next week. The restaurant will bring Japanese cuisine, with a focus on handrolls, temaki, premium seafood, and more. The restaurant will feature a sushi counter and 12 table seats.

Sakasama is set to open October 13 at 344 W. 46th Street in Midtown Manhattan. The restaurant comes from Sakasama Hospitality Group, the team behind Tam Mai Thai, Ramen Momoko, and Kamisama. The restaurant is led by owner Teng Huang and executive chef Georgie Castillo.

Sakasama will bring a fresh, more relaxed approach to sushi dining centered around premium seafood, thoughtful technique, and an interactive experience. It offers high-quality sushi without the formality of a traditional sushi counter.

Sakasama will be open from noon to 3:30 p.m. and from 5 to 10 p.m. Reservations are available, and walk-ins are welcome.

The restaurant will have a 20-seat sushi counter where chefs prepare handrolls and serve them directly to guests. The restaurant will also have 12 table seats, where the rolls will be served as open-style temaki. Some ingredients, including eel and A5 Wagyu, will be torched to order.

The restaurant will highlight handrolls, temaki, seafood, sake, and cocktails in a casual setting. The menu will feature Japanese Milk Bread Toasts topped with uni, ikura, and caviar. Guests can also try the Toast Trio, which includes all three options.

Sakasama will have three signature sets. The Mitsu set has salmon, scallop, and yellowtail. The Ura set contains salmon, scallop, crab, eel, and toro, and the Sakasama set contains salmon, scallop, crab, bluefin tuna, and lobster.

Individual handrolls and additional seafood dishes will also be available. The From the Chef section will include seasonal dishes such as mackerel, tuna tataki, salmon sashimi, and hamachi.
