Casa Donato, an Italian restaurant and café from the team behind Montreal’s Ristorante Donato, is opening in Toronto’s Harbord Village, at 660 Spadina Ave., according to Toronto Life.

The all-day Italian café and restaurant will offer an all-day café menu featuring sandwiches, pastries, salads, smoothies, house-made gelato, and an extensive coffee program.

According to Toronto Life, Casa Donato will open in phases. The first phase, which will offer a counter-service café, is scheduled to open on October 15, while the larger dining room and bar will follow as part of the restaurant’s second phase.

The concept is also planned to eventually include a 150-seat dining room and bar serving a more extensive Italian menu.

According to co-owner Donato Trafficante, the expansion came after the developer of the Toronto property approached the restaurant group about opening at the site.

“We didn’t have a plan to expand outside of Montreal, but it just seemed like the area needed it, and it felt right,” Trafficante told the outlet.

The Toronto location will mark the restaurant group’s expansion outside Quebec and add a new Italian dining option to Harbord Village, an area near the University of Toronto that has seen an increasing number of independent restaurants and cafés in recent years.

What Now Toronto previously reported on Piano Piano’s expansion in the neighbourhood, where the restaurant operates at 88 Harbord Street.
