A new walk-up kitchen serving Baja-inspired coastal food is planned for Mission Beach. According to public filings, Cali’s Kitchen plans to open at 839 Santa Clara Place.

What Now San Diego reached out to owner Daniel Kalenov, who said the restaurant is targeting a late November opening, ahead of Thanksgiving.

The concept grew out of Kalenov’s development of the property, which includes The Boardwalk Hotel at the same address.

Cali’s Kitchen is intended to give hotel guests and neighborhood residents a nearby dining option, with a walk-up window and patio seating.

“I wanted guests and neighbors to have a great space to grab food without getting in the car,” Kalenov told What Now San Diego.

Kalenov sees the restaurant as an opportunity to bring together two food traditions that are common in California but, he said, are not often found under one roof in Mission Beach.

“We’re the first true fresh Baja kitchen in Mission Beach,” he said.

The menu will combine breakfast staples with Baja-inspired dishes. Morning options will include breakfast burritos, açaí bowls and avocado toast, while the rest of the day’s menu will feature ceviche, tacos and burritos.

“You can eat healthy and nutritious food here without having to sit down for a long meal,” Kalenov told What Now San Diego.
