A beloved DMV Greek restaurant is making major and important strides towards making its auspicious Maryland entrance. Our Mom Eugenia’s developer has received a permit and construction has officially begun on the concept’s upcoming Bethesda location, reports local media outlet MoCo Show.
Our Mom Eugenia will be opening its new location-a benchmark for being both its first in Maryland and its first stand alone storefront-in Westbard Square at 5315 Zenith Overlook.
The restaurant has been stoking the appetites of locals hungry to sample its fare. Our Mom Eugenia posted a progress update on its Instagram page, featuring an image of the under-construction space. The caption states: “ Believe it or not this was just a dirt floor a week ago so seeing a concrete floor has never been so exciting. We make a million decisions throughout the construction of every restaurant, each time with our customers and employees being top priority. Giving tables enough wiggle room, chefs enough cooking space, things in just the right place to make things more functional for our employees- the list goes on.”
Our Mom Eugenia does not yet have an official opening date set for its Maryland debut, however the social media post suggests that ownership is optimistic about opening late this year or early next: “In December we’re hitting our 10 year anniversary and we’ll hopefully be nearing the finish line of our 4th location… knowing where we were 10 years ago, how much we’ve learned and been through and grown… it almost feels surreal.”
Our Mom Eugenia has earned an ardent fan-base thanks to its authentic Greek recipes, passed down from the titular matriarch. The website offers a peak at the menu, saying: “Experience the authentic flavors of Greece right here in Northern Virginia. Our menu celebrates our country’s rich culinary traditions, featuring vibrant ingredients and time-honored recipes prepared fresh daily.”
