Flatstick Pub, the family-owned Washington craft beer and pub games company, will celebrate the grand opening of its Woodinville location on Saturday, Oct. 17, during an opening weekend that runs Friday, Oct. 16, through Sunday, Oct. 18. The location fills the restored Old Woodinville School in the city’s Schoolhouse District and is the company’s largest to date, with a mini golf course built into the building’s entire second floor.

A new use for a 1909 schoolhouse
The Old Woodinville School dates to 1909. It was the town’s first brick school and later served as City Hall, and it has been restored as the centerpiece of the Schoolhouse District, where Flatstick is the anchor tenant. Rather than set a course on top of the existing floor, Flatstick built it into the second story itself. Co-founder and CEO Andy Largent describes it as a links-style course, closer to a putting course than traditional mini golf, with longer, free-flowing holes.

“People in Woodinville grew up in this building,” Largent said in a statement. “They went to school here, and some of them worked here when it was City Hall. We didn’t want to cover that up. We wanted to play through it.”

Opening weekend

Flatstick will hold a ceremonial first putt at noon on Saturday, Oct. 17. Guests who play any game during opening weekend will be entered in a drawing for Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Kraken or Seattle Sounders FC tickets. Winners must be 18 or older, and the drawing will be held Monday, Oct. 19. Games on the screens that weekend include the Huskies at Purdue, plus the Kraken at Florida, the Cougars at Oregon State and the Sounders against CF Montréal on Saturday, with NFL games on Sunday.

A kitchen for new dishes
The Woodinville location has a larger kitchen than any other Flatstick, and the company is using it to develop a menu specific to this location, beginning with smash burgers and stacked sandwiches. “We’re trying new things in our biggest location, from the menu to the course,” Largent said. As at its other locations, Flatstick serves Washington beer from independent breweries, with more than 30 taps.

Games, groups and growth
Along with mini golf, the location offers Duffleboard, a game Flatstick developed that combines golf and shuffleboard, plus shuffleboard, darts and a golf simulator. The space hosts private events from 10 guests up to full buyouts of 500, and weeknights include league play and trivia. Woodinville is Flatstick’s sixth location. Largent describes the company’s approach to growth as steady, adding locations as the right opportunities come up.
