Khaira Fuel & Market is taking over the former Kwik Serv at 11 Market St. in Colusa. The change of ownership was filed this month, and the store is expected to reopen under its new name soon. Owner Sukhwinder Khaira is the sole officer and stockholder of the business.

The location is a combined fuel stop and convenience market. Kwik Serv has operated there since at least last October, when United Petroleum, Inc. took over the beer and wine license. That license is now being transferred to Khaira, so the new owner will keep selling beer and wine at the store. Because the site sells fuel, it must follow drive-in rules. Beer and wine sales have to take place inside the store, and none can be sold to anyone in a vehicle.

The store is in Colusa, the Colusa County seat, a city of about 6,400 residents on the Sacramento River. Agriculture drives the local economy, especially rice, almonds and walnuts, and the county has long been one of the nation’s top rice producers. Colusa County and the Colusa Unified School District are among the area’s largest employers.
