From die-hard sports fans to visitors seeking a New York City keepsake, shoppers will soon have a new destination for sports apparel and memorabilia in Midtown Manhattan.

Global commercial real estate and investment management firm JLL announced Lids has signed a new 10-year lease. The upcoming 1,993-square-foot store will open in the newly transformed Penn District, adjacent to Madison Square Garden.

“With Madison Square Garden steps away, an average of 650,000 people moving through Penn Station daily, a dynamic mix of tenants across the Penn District, and more than 70 new retail and dining additions, this location gives Lids tremendous visibility while putting its products exactly where its customers already are,” Jesse Wolff, executive vice president at JLL, said in a statement.

Vornado Realty Trust has invested in redeveloping the Penn District, the commercial area surrounding Penn Station. The project includes upgraded transit facilities, public spaces and approximately 1.1 million square feet of new retail space, including shops and restaurants inside Penn Station’s Long Island Rail Road concourse.

“Lids adds a strong sports and lifestyle offering to the district’s growing retail scene, contributing to Vornado’s vision for a curated collection of brands that gives the Penn District an authentic New York character,” Wolff added.

Lids focuses on licensed sports headwear and fan gear. The store offers a wide selection of caps featuring professional, collegiate and international sports teams. Many locations also provide custom embroidery services, allowing customers to personalize hats with names, initials, patches and logos.

“We offer a huge selection of gear from top quality brands, all in one convenient place. We are passionate about our goal of bringing fans across the globe access to their favorite team’s gear, the website reads.

Founded in Indianapolis in 1995, the retailer has expanded to more than 2,000 locations across North America, Europe and Australia.

An official opening date for the Penn District location has not yet been announced. Visit the Lids website and follow along on Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates.
