Two Metro Detroit locals are bringing Western European dishes to the town on Anchor Bay.
The new restaurant Brasserie 1796 is under construction at 36457 Alfred Street in downtown New Baltimore. It replaces the former Anchor Bay Aquarium, which closed late last year. Co-owner Billy Sengstock told What Now Detroit they are hoping to open in mid-to-late November.
The concept is inspired by the first European settlers who made it to the New Baltimore area in 1796. Like the name implies, it will be a French-style restaurant, serving seafood, specialty breads and cocktails. The space also features a wine bar that will debut with the dining area.
“Here, tradition and innovation come together to create a dining experience as rich and timeless as the story of our city,” says the description on the company website.
Brasserie 1796 is at the corner of Bedford and Alfred streets, next to A and B Liquor and Tobacco Outlet. Other dining concepts nearby include Pitstop Cafe, Reds Bayside Grind and The Pickled Goat Bar & Grill. This is just a block north of Main Street.
More updates on the restaurant can be found on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
