White Horse Tavern at 107 Yelm Avenue E. in Yelm is becoming Boots & Brews under new owners Alisha Wright and Myra Shearer, according to an application filed with the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board.

The license notification lists Boots and Brews LLC as the new business, with Wright and Shearer named as applicants. The owners announced the transition on the tavern’s Facebook page.

A grand opening celebration is scheduled for this Friday, October 23. Plans include a food truck, music, raffles, and a boot contest. The contest will have categories for the prettiest, ugliest, muddiest, and coolest biker boots. A promotional giveaway drawing is also scheduled.

“We’re not here to erase the history of the White Horse. We’re here to build on it, bring some fresh energy, make new memories, and keep this a place where everyone feels like family,” the owners wrote in the announcement.

The owners also paid tribute to Kyle Phillips, White Horse Tavern’s former owner. They thanked him for his friendship and said they hope to honor his memory by preserving the bar’s sense of community.
