Sushi fans near the University of Central Florida will soon have another spot to try. Touken Sushi is preparing to open a location on Technological Avenue, bringing its blend of Japanese cuisine and Brazilian influences to the area.
According to permit information, the new restaurant is planned for 3402 Technological Avenue, Suite 130. The business’s website currently lists its UCF location as ‘opening soon’, although an opening date has not been announced.
Touken Sushi’s menu goes beyond traditional sushi rolls, offering specialty creations, sashimi, nigiri, hand rolls and Japanese-inspired entrees. Guests can also find dishes such as yakisoba noodles, teppan meals served with rice and vegetables, and fried rice prepared with a choice of protein.
Among the restaurant’s signature offerings are the Volcano Roll, which features shrimp tempura and cream cheese topped with crabmeat, spicy mayonnaise and masago, and the Dragon Roll, combining grilled salmon and shrimp tempura with sliced eel. Other options include the Philadelphia Roll, Rainbow Roll and sushi combinations suited to sharing.
The menu also reflects Brazilian influences, with items such as djos; salmon wrapped around rice and finished with different toppings alongside Brazilian guarana soda and desserts including brigadeiro.
Touken Sushi’s story began in Orlando in 2014. The restaurant was founded by Satie Aranda and her husband after she moved to the city with her family and saw an opportunity to bring a modern take on Japanese cuisine to the local dining scene. The concept also draws on her family’s connections to Japan and Brazil.
The UCF-area location will add to Touken Sushi’s existing presence in Central Florida, with the restaurant listing locations in Hunters Creek and Lake Mary on its website.
While the new address and permit information point to a planned restaurant, the company has not yet announced when the UCF location will open.
