Walmart’s new high-tech fulfillment center has begun construction in Carnesville, Georgia. The facility is designed to increase the company’s online order-processing capacity and support faster shipping options. The project represents an over a billion-dollar investment and is expected to create approximately 1,000 jobs.
Walmart Is Building a New Fulfillment Center in Carnesville

Walmart celebrated the groundbreaking of its new next-generation fulfillment center in Carnesville, Georgia, on October 27. The facility will be located at 10725 Old Federal Road and will span approximately 1.5 million square feet. The groundbreaking was attended by Walmart supply chain leadership, local officials, and development partners.
It will be Walmart’s sixth next-generation fulfillment center in the United States. Its development is supported by a $1.3 billion investment.
The center will combine advanced technology, automation, and human workers to improve the company’s online order processing. It will help Walmart handle more orders each day, improve fulfillment efficiency, and provide customers with faster same-day and next-day shipping options.
The construction of the facility is anticipated to be completed in 2029. Once operational, the facility will support Walmart’s supply chain and e-commerce operations.
Impact on the Company and Community
The new facility will help increase Walmart’s storage capacity. According to Walmart, the facility will be able to store up to twice as many stock-keeping units (SKUs) as a traditional fulfillment center. This will allow the company to expand the range of products that are available through Walmart.com.
Walmart has plans to hire around 1,000 full-time workers from the local community when the facility opens. There will be technology-focused positions available, as well as positions in other areas of the facility. Walmart said the facility will offer employees opportunities for career development.
The project is also expected to support economic growth in Northeast Georgia by creating new employment opportunities and expanding the region’s role in Walmart’s supply chain network.
