Redeemer Health, a Pennsylvania-based company, which serves as a Catholic healthcare system, has turned to bankruptcy protection. Court records have not specified the reasons that could have led to the filing.

Note: Chapter 11 allows businesses to reorganize their debts while continuing operations under court supervision. A Chapter 11 filing does not necessarily mean that a business is closing. For additional information, readers are encouraged to contact the business directly.

Redeemer Health Files for Chapter 11

The company submitted its petition to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on November 1.

According to Glenside Local, the company missed a required September 1 payment on $71 million in bond debt. In addition, it had also not made its October 1 payment. The default requires the organization to restructure its debt, and a spokesperson said that process was already underway.

The healthcare provider owns and operates Holy Redeemer Hospital in Meadowbrook.

Redeemer Health said its leadership was working with financial advisors, legal counsel, the bondholders’ representative, and other parties, including nearby health systems. The company aimed to reorganize its operations and establish a sustainable business model.

The hospital and its other facilities were expected to remain open during the process. It had also reported operating losses in every fiscal year from 2017 through 2025, according to Glenside Local.

Highlights from the Petition

Court records on PACER name several creditors and parties with security interests in Redeemer Health’s cash collateral. These include Cencora, Eaton Vance, ASD Specialty Healthcare LLC, Invesco, State Street, and Vanguard.

The filing follows reports that the organization missed required bond payments. James Logue, the company’s president and CEO, signed the petition before it was submitted along with these details.

Attorney Anne M. Aaronson of Dilworth Paxson LLP is representing the company.
