Founded in Charleston in 2004, interior design brand Michael Mitchell “stands as a beacon of design excellence, being recognized in publications such as Architectural Digest, Robb Report, and The Wall Street Journal.” Next year, the company, headed up by designer Michael Mitchell, will open its flagship showroom and studio on Johns Island.
The new luxury showroom will open in the South Island Market master-planned community, which is also expected to debut in 2027.
“Founded by acclaimed interior designer Michael Mitchell, the firm is recognized for its sophisticated residential interiors, bespoke furnishings and timeless Lowcountry-inspired design aesthetic,” said an announcement by the Charleston Chamber of Commerce back in May. “The new South Island Market location will serve as both the company’s flagship luxury showroom and full-service interior design studio, further expanding its presence throughout the Charleston, Kiawah, and Sea Island luxury residential markets. A Johns Island native, Mitchell brings a personal connection to this project that extends well beyond design.”

Michael Mitchell offers a selection that includes products for dining rooms, living rooms, bedrooms, the outdoors, and more. There is also a selection of antiques sourced from Europe.
“Johns Island is home,” Michael Mitchell said in the press release. “My family has roots here, and there is something deeply meaningful about building the next chapter of this firm in the community where I grew up. South Island Market is the kind of thoughtfully designed environment I always imagined for a space like this and I couldn’t be more proud to be part of it.”
