Howdy Diner is planned for 902 E. Broadway Boulevard in Tucson, where Coronet Restaurant owner Sally Kane will take over the former Welcome Diner, according to the Arizona Daily Star.
The 3,929-square-foot space has been closed since 2020. Renovations will refresh the existing booths and open a back room to customers, with plans for a bar, walk-up counter, and outdoor patio.
Customers will be able to choose table service or order at the counter before heading to the patio.
The restaurant plans to serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week, including silver-dollar pancakes, pastrami sandwiches, burgers, and meatloaf.
Kane used to greet guests at her father’s ranch with “Howdy.” She settled on the name after discussing ideas with business partner Chris Hallverson and operations manager Guy Torey.
Work is underway, and the restaurant is expected to seat 130 people. An opening date was not provided.
What Now Phoenix reached out to Sally Kane but did not hear back by the time of this publication. This article may be updated as more information becomes available.
