As first reported by the Dayton Business Journal, Barry Bagels is making plans to open another Dayton area location. The bagel shop will open at 6228 Wilmington Pike, in Sugarcreek Township and it is currently looking as though the shop will be ready to open by mid-summer.
Local franchisees and business partners Jen Fester and Cody Klueter currently operate the Barry Bagels storefront at 4313 Far Hills Ave, in Kettering, and the partners are looking at the forthcoming Sugarcreek Township location as an opportunity for it to become a central hub and serving as a commissary.
The shop will open in Sugarcreek Plaza II, and with the space coming in at 2,950-square-feet, the business partners shared with What Now Columbus that there’s likely to be between 12 and 16 seats at the store. While Barry Bagels is a growing brand and the franchisees are excited to open their second store, the pair are considering opening additional locations in the future, but nothing is confirmed just yet.
“We’re in the dreaming stages,” Fester said of the possibility of opening more storefronts.
When it opens, guests of the Wilmington Pike location will be able to order single bagels, as well as by the dozen or half dozen, and pair them with cream cheese, which is offered in a number of flavors or plain. Additional menu offerings include breakfast bagel sandwiches available with egg, cheese and meat, as well as soups, salads and lunch sandwiches like hot pastrami, ham, turkey, BLT or lox and cream cheese, to name a few.
As detailed on its website, the Ohio-based bagel company got its start as The Bagel Place in 1972 by Detroit native Barry Greenblatt and his business partner Peter Johnson in Sylvania. At the time it opened, the business produced the first boiled then baked bagel in the Sylvania area. The establishment started expanding in the 1970s and changed its name to Barry Bagels in 1979, after Johnson retired. Today, the company has locations in four states, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky.
