Candler Crossing, a new mixed-use development, is set to break ground next month. The multi-million dollar project is located in South DeKalb. The development is expected to generate more than 100 construction jobs and over 150 permanent positions.
Candler Crossing to Break Ground Next Month
DeKalb is set to welcome a new mixed-use project that will break ground next month. Candler Crossing will include a grocery store, retail spaces, jobs, and community gathering areas. It will be located along the Candler Road corridor, aiming to boost activity in the area.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on June 11, 2026. The ceremony will be joined by officials from Decide DeKalb, Venture South Investments, and DeKalb County. It will take place at the future site of Candler Crossing in Decatur, Georgia.
Attendees will include Dorian Barr, Decide DeKalb President & CEO, and Evan Conder, Venture South Investments Partner. DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson will also attend the ceremony. Dr. LaDena Bolton and Nicole Massiah, DeKalb County Commissioners for Districts 7 and 3, respectively, will also be a part of the event.
Project Details
Candler Crossing is a $28.9 million project that includes a 50,325-square-foot grocery store. It also includes an 11,200-square-foot retail building, walking trails, green space, and pedestrian improvements.
There will also be a 2,000-square-foot affordable retail space for local businesses. This space will have a reduced rent during its first five years. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2026. The first tenants are expected to move in by October 2027.

Decide DeKalb Development Authority will develop the project in partnership with Venture South Investments. Decide DeKalb serves as the primary arm of economic development and job growth for DeKalb County. DeKalb has a diverse population of 760,000 and is home to Emory University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Venture South Investments is a Georgia-based real estate development and asset management firm. It specializes in grocery-anchored retail centers, single-tenant net-leased properties, and mixed-use development. It is known for partnering with local governments and development organizations on community-focused projects.
Candler Crossing is expected to become a major addition to South DeKalb. It brings new retail opportunities, jobs, and community spaces to the area.
