Demolition and construction at The Interlock, a $450 million mixed-use development on the Westside, is slated to begin November 2.
Older structures will be demolished starting next Friday, and land development will commence, according to a press release this week.
The Interlock is slated for delivery in summer 2020.
Leading up to demo day, developer S.J. Collins Enterprises is hosting a contest through social media.
Over the weekend, local artist Peter Ferrari completed a mural of bat wings on an approximate 8-foot high by 24-foot wide panel at The Interlock’s property at the corner of 14th St. N.W. and Howell Mill Road N.W.
The contest encourages individuals to take a picture with the mural and upload it to either Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
Eligible entries must follow The Interlock on the specific social media platform selected, upload the photo and tag The Interlock using the hashtag #TheInterlockTakesFlight.
The uploaded photo must also be set to public.
On November 1, the top two photos with the most likes will each win a $500 Visa gift card and the winners will be announced live on November 2 on The Interlock’s social media platforms.
Once complete, The Interlock will offer 200,000 square feet of loft office space, 105,000 square feet for retail, 350 apartment units, 70 single-family homes, and a 145-key Marriott Tribute Portfolio hotel.
Of the 200,000 square feet of loft office space, Georgia Technology Ventures will operate a 50,000-square-foot incubator space with a mission of promoting and growing tech start-ups in the southeast.
Most recently, S.J. Collins Enterprises partnered with Slater Hospitality Concepts to create The Grove, a rooftop experience at The Interlock.
Ponce City Market’s St. Germain French Bakery is also on deck for the development.
All of the Interlock development looks great. But I have one problem. I live a couple of blocks east of Northside Drive and being able to walk to the development from where I live (off 14th Street) to Howell Mill Road is really treacherous and unpleasant. It would be really helpful if the developers could work with the city etc. to improve east/west walkability. Really…what we need is a east/west walk/bike connection from Piedmont Park to the new Quarry Park.
