Nonprofit organization East Atlanta Kids Club is planning to open a skateshop in a redeveloping retail corridor in East Atlanta. East Atlanta Skateshop will open at 481 Flat Shoals Ave., Suite A, according to a recent announcement.
East Atlanta Kids Club has been active since 1998 and aims to build “a promising future for the children of Southeast Atlanta,” according to its website. The club offers a learning space outside of school to try to help children thrive, with programs featuring fitness, experiential learning and STEAM-based classes.
East Atlanta Skateshop will aim to provide a third place for youth, selling skate goods and youth-designed merchandise, according to the Atlanta Business Journal.
“We’re building this space with our young people and our neighborhood, and we’ve been incredibly encouraged by the coalition forming around it: local businesses, funders, skaters, creatives, civic partners and neighbors who believe East Atlanta’s growth should include meaningful spaces for kids and teens,” East Atlanta Kids Club said in a social media post.
The team is currently in the permitting stages and construction is still to come. An exact opening timeline has not been announced yet.
