Specialty outdoor retailer to replace Radio Shack.
High Country Outfitters, an Atlanta-based specialty outdoor retailer since 1975, has plans to open a third location.
The 40-year-old retailer of boating, camping, and climbing equipment, is taking space formerly occupied by Radio Shack in the Ansley Mall Shopping Center, at 1544 Peidmont Road, according to signage posted at the store.
High Country’s Piedmont Heights location is slated to open this Spring.
Atlantans interested in working for the speciality outdoor retailer can send their intent to [email protected], according to the coming soon signage.
High Country has a store in Buckhead and East Cobb in The Avenue.

That seems like an awfully small space for that kind of retailer. How big are their other stores?
When is the Beltline slated to reach Ansley Mall?
The Beltline is already up and running behind the mall.
No, no it isn’t. Nothing more than a dirt path.
I was really hoping they would bulldoze Ansley Mall. What a dump.
If I recall correctly, High Country’s original store was in the same building right about where the new location will be (though it opened to the interior courtyard of the mall). It was tiny, but served the area quite well for many years. I still have and use the North Face sleeping bag I bought there in ’85.
They just laid off all the people that they hired for the new Store. Be ware of the “We are Hiring”. Sounds like they are closing before they are opening.
