P. Terry’s has announced its permanent closure with a social media post. The community favorite burger stand will close its flagship location and serve its final meal on Sunday, June 28. The closure is tied to the ongoing I-35 expansion project.

P. Terry’s Announces Closure of Capital Plaza Restaurant

A longtime staple burger chain, P. Terry’s was established in 2005 by Patrick and Kathy Terry. The company opened its first restaurant near South Lamar Boulevard and Barton Springs Road in Austin. The chain is known for made-to-order burgers, fries, shakes, and desserts.

In an Instagram post, the owner of P. Terry’s announced the closure. He confirmed that P. Terry’s flagship location at 5701 N Interstate Hwy 35 in Austin will be closing its doors on June 28.

The owner said, “While we’re sad to say goodbye to this location, we’re grateful for the memories and look forward to continuing to serve you at our other locations across Texas.”

The P. Terry’s team expressed gratitude to the community and said, “For years, this stand has served our community, and we’re incredibly thankful for every guest who stopped by for a burger, fries, a shake, or simply made us part of their routine.”

Burger Stand Closes Amid I-35 Expansion

In the post, the owner explained, “Due to TxDOT’s I-35 expansion project, our Capital Plaza location will close on Sunday, June 28.”

The I-35 Capital Express Project is an ongoing massive highway expansion project throughout the Austin metro area. The Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) redevelopment plan is aimed at easing the traffic challenges.

As the Capital Plaza location is closing, P. Terry’s team added, “If you’re looking for a stand near Capital Plaza, please visit our Koenig or Tech Ridge locations.”

With the closure of P. Terry’s flagship location, the Austin dining scene is losing a notable spot.
