A new Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream location is heading to Leander. It will open at 19389 Ronald Reagan Blvd., Suite 150, according to a recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The 2,000-square-foot space is expected to undergo construction from June to August, with plans for an opening likely in late summer.
This location is the second spot for franchisees Chad and Alyse Hughes, who operate the existing location at Anderson Mill. Chad told What Now Austin that they plan to continue to build out locations across North Austin, with plans for a total of about five spots across the area. The Leander location will allow them to continue to grow in burgeoning areas of the city.
“It’s a high-growth area,” Chad said. “We really like that it’s family-oriented over there, which does well with ice cream.”
The new location will feature an updated Handel’s design as well as an indoor area for people to queue amid the summer heat, marking a contrast to the usual walk-up window model used for the franchise.
Handel’s has been expanding across the country and now has well over 100 locations, with more units on the way.
