According to public filings and a company announcement, Bealls plans to open a new 14,400-square-foot store at 1620 East Sarah DeWitt Drive, inside Gonzales Marketplace.
What Now Austin reached out to Bealls representatives, who confirmed that a weekend-long grand opening is targeted for November 6-8, 2026, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony set for 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 7. The Gonzales location will mark the 92nd Bealls store in Texas.
According to the company, as part of every new store opening, Bealls plants a non-invasive, fruit-bearing or medicinal native tree near the entrance, a tradition intended to honor the land where it establishes new locations. Bealls is also hiring locally for 16 to 18 supervisory and associate positions ahead of the opening.
Founded in 1915, Bealls is an American retail corporation offering fashion apparel, footwear, and accessories across specialty sizing, along with home goods, housewares, and gifts.
The company, which celebrates its 111th anniversary this year, plans to open 13 new stores this fall. The retailer has also earned national recognition, including a place on Forbes’ Best Brands for Value list and a five-star rating on USA Today’s America’s Best Loyalty & Rewards Program 2026, according to the brand’s rewards page.
Bealls Inc., based in Bradenton, Florida, acquired the naming rights to the Bealls brand after Texas-based Stage Stores filed for bankruptcy and shut down all of its locations in 2020.
The Florida company has since worked to unify its stores, including those previously branded as Burke’s Outlet, under the single “bealls” name as it expands back into Texas markets that lost their local department stores.
The Gonzales opening follows a broader expansion pattern that What Now has tracked in other states.
What Now Detroit reported on new Bealls locations planned for Owosso and Clio, Michigan, as part of the chain’s push into new markets beyond its traditional Southeast footprint.
