A brand-new bagel shop from a familiar local restaurant group is making its way to Middleborough.

Nellie Rose Restaurants recently announced that they are preparing to launch a new concept called Cranky Frankie’s Bagel Co. at 80 East Grove Street, taking over the former East Grove Laundromat site directly across from Middleborough High School. Scott Gould, who leads Nellie Rose Restaurants and is behind the upcoming bagelry, briefly confirmed the news with What Now Boston this week but has yet to share additional details about the forthcoming bagelry.

The team offered a first look at the project in a recent social media post, sharing a photo of signage on the storefront windows. “A little sign of what’s to come…” reads the announcement. “Cranky Frankie’s Bagel Co. coming soon to Middleboro!☕️“

While the bagelry’s menu remains under wraps for now, the team did reveal in the comments that the bagels will be boiled and baked “like they should be.” The announcement has already drawn more than 500 reactions and over 70 comments on social media.

Founded by Gould and Gabriella Costa in 2015, Nellie Rose Restaurants is known for its classic American comfort dishes, spanning all-day breakfast, brunch, and lunch. The eatery takes its name from Gould’s great-great-grandmother, who became a beloved figure in town, and today operates three locations: The Farm House in Whitman, The Train Station in Middleborough, and The Diner in East Freetown.

An official opening date for Cranky Frankie’s Bagel Co. has not yet been announced, but the team hopes to welcome its first customers before Christmas 2026. In the meantime, Middleborough residents can visit The Train Station for breakfast and lunch.
