Caviar & Bananas continues its expansion across the Lowcountry.
The Charleston-based specialty cafe owned by Joe Caradonna is opening the new outpost in Mount Pleasant at 1035 Johnnie Dodds Blvd., at the newly remodeled Fairmont Plaza, according to an Instagram post.
“We’re going to keep this expansion party going. How about we cross just one more bridge this year,” the post read, along with a photo of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.
This follows recent news of its expansion to James Island this summer. It also has locations on George Street in downtown Charleston and on the Medical University of South Carolina campus.
Founded in 2008, the shop is known for its breakfast and lunch offerings, grab-and-go items, gelato, smoothies, and shakes, alongside an espresso bar featuring Foresight-roasted coffee.
Menu highlights include the Strawberry Dream Toast, served on toasted wheat bread with lemon ricotta, diced strawberries, toasted almonds and a honey drizzle; the Caradonna, made with roast beef, aged provolone, baby arugula, drunken tomato relish and pepperoncini aioli, served hot on a French baguette; and the Gramercy salad, featuring baby arugula, herb-grilled chicken, aged Gouda, dried cranberries, tri-colored quinoa, toasted almonds and balsamic vinaigrette.
The name Caviar & Bananas is often a conversation starter.
“It’s the most interesting and funny thing to stand outside the doors and hear people walk by that have never been down here. It’s either, ‘Oh! Caviar & Bananas? That sounds really cool,’ or ‘That sounds really disgusting,’” Caradonna previously told What Now Charleston.
He continued, “It’s a metaphor where you can come in to get something as extraordinary as caviar or something as ordinary as a banana. We cater to all walks of life and put a cool, unique spin on the items we offer.”
The team has not announced an official opening date. Visit the Caviar & Bananas website and follow along on Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates.
