A national sub sandwich franchise is expanding its footprint in Charleston.

Bryan and Mary Paquin, along with their son BJ and his wife Kayla, are preparing to open a new Firehouse Subs at 838 Foundation St. The eatery will find its home in the growing Point Hope Commons shopping center, right next to the upcoming Dunkin’/Baskin-Robbins combination location.

The Paquin family already operates more than 15 Firehouse locations across South Carolina, with successful sites in Moncks Corner, North Charleston, Summerville, and North Myrtle Beach.

Founded in 1994 by former firefighters Chris and Robin Sorensen, Firehouse Subs is known for its hot and hearty sub sandwiches packed with premium meats and cheeses. In addition to its focus on quality subs, the company is committed to supporting local public safety organizations through active fundraising.

Firehouse Subs boasts over 1,210 restaurants across 46 states—as well as in Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Mexico, and Canada—with plans to expand to the United Kingdom and the Middle East by the end of 2024. The franchise currently operates nearly 60 locations in South Carolina alone.

BJ told What Now Charleston that construction on the new Firehouse Subs is slated to begin in the coming weeks, with the Paquins targeting a mid-January 2025 launch.
