Michael Pitera, the man behind Pizza a Modo Mio, is opening a new concept in Hollywood this February called Cafe Modo Mio.
By day, Cafe Modo Mio will act as a specialty coffee and breakfast shop serving handcrafted lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, drip coffee, chai tea and house-made baked goods. They will also partner with a local bakery to bring in fresh, New York-style bagels and various cream cheese options. By night, the space will transform into a pizzeria serving the same menu as Pizza a Modo Mio’s original West Ashley location, with a few tweaks.
“At our West Ashley and Hollywood locations, we’re updating the menu to add taverna style pizza, in addition to our New York-style, Grandma and Sicilian pizzas, and we’re going to be removing a lot of our fried appetizers like mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers and calamari. Our goal is to stay focused on what we do best – making fresh pizza, salad, things of that nature,” said Pitera.
When asked about why he chose the location in Hollywood, Pitera responded, “There’s a lot of development happening in the neighborhood and families moving in, but no coffee shops and not many pizza options. We see a lot of potential and are excited to offer the Hollywood, Ravenel and Meggett area residents our food.”
Pitera continued, “We’re a family owned business and we like to be involved in the community. We do a lot for local schools, neighborhoods, hospitals, etc. and plan to do the same out of our new space. The Hollywood location has a large outdoor area so we also want to host events like music, live performers, and coffee and yoga mornings.”
Cafe Modo Mio also plans to serve wine and beer once they receive their liquor license. Cafe hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends. Pizza store hours are 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
