A local bar has closed, but the owners are cooking up something new at the space.
A new concept called Eatery 117 is being built out at 117 Spears Creek Church Road in Elgin.
It comes from Kimberly and John Gagliardi, the owners of Random Tap, who announced in March 2025 they would be closing after nearly 10 years. The owners cited the rising costs of operating an establishment with alcohol due to skyrocketing liquor liability insurance rates as a key reason for the pivot, The State reports.
“Over the past (almost) ten years, we’ve made memories that will last a lifetime,” the owners wrote on social media after Random Tap’s final week. “We’ve gained friends who became family. This week, we heard so many stories – of friendships formed, spouses meeting, and moments that made Random Tap special to you. We’ll carry those stories with us. While this chapter has closed, we’re excited for what’s ahead.”
The bar’s last day of operation was April 13, 2025, and the business has been closed ever since while they transform the space into Eatery 117, making cosmetic changes to the space. The restaurant will have a mostly black and white interior, with pops of lime green.
Eatery 117 will serve breakfast and lunch available for dine-in or to-go, whether you’re sitting down for a full brunch or grabbing a latte to go. Expect some vegan and gluten-free options. Operating hours could be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
